There Is One Part of the Game Nikola Jokic Still Can’t Control

nikola jokic

Nikola Jokic is the reigning MVP of the NBA and entered this season looking even better than he did the last season. When it comes to controlling the entire game, there is no one better than Jokic.

He’s the best passer with insane court vision, inside scorer with unorthodox moves that stifle defenders, a tremendous rebounder and he’s improved his defense which was his only weakness.

Here are his stats from the last 5 games:

  • 25 points, 19 rebounds, 7 assists
  • 23 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists
  • 34 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists
  • 28 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists
  • 25 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists

Mad decent.

But if you watch more of Jokic, you see that defense wasn’t his achilles heel. It’s his temper. Here he is last night against the Miami Heat taking a semi-hard foul from Markieff Morris and then immediately retaliating with a homicide.

To defend Jokic for a second, the Miami Heat are full of goons whose role is to slam bodies and powerbomb guys. When you play super aggressive defense and declare yourself as the ‘tough’ team in the NBA, you are opening yourself up to get clapped back by someone like Jokic who has had enough.

The Heat tried to confront Nikola after the game.

And this photo proves my point. If you are truly this tough rugged team, why didn’t you throw hands while Markieff was taste-testing the hardwood? It is so corny to hold hands and march to the locker room so that you can feel united and strong while you all have no intention of actually fighting anyone.

More people should bully the Heat.

But it shouldn’t be Nikola Jokic because when you reach the point where you could be described as the best player in the NBA, you can no longer rack up technical fouls crying at referees or collecting flagrants by dangerously fouling people when you’re frustrated about the way your team is performing.

If you’re Nikola Jokic, your name should be in conversations with LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard. If you’re Nikola Jokic, your name should not be in conversations with Markieff Morris and Udonis Haslem.
