3 Positive Takeaways From Nebraska's Embarrassing Ass Loss To Minnesota

Being a Nebraska football fan has been hell. The team hasn’t won a bowl game since Obama’s first term and after a half decade under Scott Frost, the Matt Rhule era has begun.

And the Matt Rhule era fucking sucks.

I could spend an hour punching my keyboard, angrily typing an article dragging Nebraska for ruining the season before it even started and once again collapsing on national television.

But I recently had a birthday and I’m trying to be more positive now.

Nebraska hasn’t been dominant in almost 20 years. Why be upset about the team performing as they usually do these days?

So here are the positive takeaways from Nebraska’s embarrassing loss to Minnesota:

1. The defense was defensing

This defense held Minnesota to only 13 points and 10 of those 13 were in the 4th quarter off two offensive turnovers. So they essentially dominated the game until the offense melted down and handed Minnesota free possessions.

The Golden Gophers only ran for 55 yards all night. Their QB1, Athan Kaliakmanis, only completed 24 of his 44 pass attempts and threw and interception by the goal line.

Omar Brown was all over the field just spawning wherever the ball was. Josh Bullock was right behind him. There are some playmakers on this team and they are 1000% going to need some later on this season.

2. Jeff Simms wasn’t that bad

Jeff Simms led the team with 91 rushing yards. He threw a touchdown pass. That’s a great game.

As long as you ignore his 3 interceptions.

But penalties and inconsistent offensive line play made it almost impossible for Simms to get comfortable in the pocket to look down the field.

3. We’re closer to firing Matt Rhule

The team had more than double the number of penalties Minnesota had. Matt Rhule is new here so he doesn’t have his recruiting class with him yet but in an interview with Colin Cowherd, he mentioned how the transfer portal makes it easier to acquire talent.

Then why didn’t he acquire any talent?

The man scammed his way into running the Carolina Panthers and was exposed.

Now he’s attempting to re-establish his name so that best case scenario, he makes a bajillion dollars coaching for a bigger school down the road or worst case scenario, he gets fired and starts a lucrative media career providing lazy, mediocre analysis for the remainder of time.

Either way, I don’t think Rhule gives a shit about Nebraska and every embarrassing loss is a step closer to finding a head coach who genuinely cares about reviving the energy in Lincoln.
