The Denver Broncos have sent a 4th round draft pick to the Jags for starting cornerback AJ Bouye. We could get into the fact that Jacksonville had the best defense in the NFL back in 2017. Remember when they were two quarters away from the Super Bowl until it was time for Blake Bortles to outplay Tom Brady and yea, lololol.
But hopefully I’ll get a chance to shit on the Jags later if I write about the Nick Foles contract being the worst in the NFL. Cannot wait until this team moves to London and plays all their meaningless games at 9am while I’m still recurring from my Saturday hangover and no matter how much water I drink, my cottonmouth remains.
But the Broncos finished 7-9 last season which was tied for 2nd in the AFC West. This team is in a weird no man’s land.
They’re in the midst of a rebuild as they develop second-year QB, Drew Lock. But they simultaneously just hired 61-year old veteran head coach and still are overpaying long-tenured players like Von Miller, Joe Flacco and now AJ Bouye.
In 2018, Bouye recorded career-highs with 6 interceptions and 18 pass deflections while being selected to second-team All-Pro. Last season Bouye had only one interception and got his ass beat early and often each week.
That being said, the 4th round pick they traded was an extra pick they acquired when they traded Emmanuel Sanders to the San Francisco 49ers so it’s a pretty low-risk trade. Plus, with Chris Harris set to leave in free agency, the Broncos current corners are absolute nameless trash.
If anything, AJ Bouye is simply a warm body to start and maaaaybe give Von Miller and Bradley Chubb time to get to the opposing quarterback.
At the end of the day, none of this matters if Drew Lock stinks. He completed 64% of his passes with 1,020 yards and 7 touchdowns to 3 interceptions. The Broncos were 4-1 in his 5 starts. Mad decent.
None of this will matter when the Chiefs go 16-0 next season and Patrick Mahomes lights up AJ Bouye in a 700 yard passing game.
Let’s first see how they blow this draft before we fully grade this trade.
