Who have been the best players in the NFL so far this season?

As the 100th NFL season continues to throw up plenty of drama and excitement, fans will be eagerly looking ahead to the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Taking time to consider which teams may actually win the next Super Bowl is worthwhile, especially if you plan to indulge in Super Bowl 2020 betting online. Of course, while the whole unit is important, in many cases this can boil down to looking at which individual players are performing exceptionally well.

A star player on fire is often enough to power a team to Super Bowl glory and inspire all those around him. To make it a little easier to know who has really shone so far, we have drawn up the below list.

Lamar Jackson

Arguably the standout player in the NFL so far has been Lamar Jackson. His form as the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback has been nothing short of sensational this season. This has left him not only with lots of adulation from fans but also with a real shout for the MVP title. Jackson really does have it all – not only does he move with awesome speed and grace but his throwing game is also destructive. This has left teams unsure how to nullify him, which is understandable when he runs and throws so well. Just one look at how he dismantled the hapless Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 with a 47-yard rushing touchdown with spin tells you all you need to know.

Patrick Mahomes

Quarterbacks inevitably steal most of the headlines in the NFL, and Patrick Mahomes has certainly garnered many of his own. Next to Jackson, this star QB from the Kansas City Chiefs has been in great form so far. Although he did suffer a freak kneecap dislocation against the Denver Broncos back in October, he has since recovered and looks back in the groove. His stats so far make for impressive reading, especially with time out for the above injury. He currently has 2,626 passing yards and 18 touchdown passes to his name. His red-hot form has sent the Chiefs to the top of the AFC West and driven them to a 6-4 record.

Tom Brady

So awesome has the form of Jackson and Mahomes been that you could almost forget about that wily old campaigner Tom Brady this year. This would be a little unfair though as he has also been a standout performer in many fans’ eyes. It has been his form that has helped the New England Patriots to continue where they left off last year and sit top of the AFC East with an 8-1 record so far. Brady started off superbly in Week One when he threw 341 yards for three touchdowns in a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since then, this experienced player has simply kept in the groove and continued doing what he does best to stand out from the crowd again with 2,536 passing yards to his name so far.

Deshaun Watson

Another standout performer so far this campaign has been Deshaun Watson, who plays at QB for the Houston Texans. Currently, he has 2,432 passing yards to his name with 18 touchdown passes thrown. Watson started off with a real bang in his opening game against the New Orleans Saints and has never really let up since. That opener saw him complete 20 passes for 268 yards and also make 40 rushing yards in a narrow defeat. The Week Three game against the Los Angeles Chargers also showed his talents, with three touchdowns and 351 yards thrown. This included a superb 53-yard touchdown pass. If Watson can keep throwing touchdown passes and powering his team to victory, then he will continue to make headlines this year.

Christian McCaffre

Russell Wilson is another QB having a great season for the Seattle Seahawks, but it is sometimes nice for other positions to get a look in! With that in mind, running back Christian McCaffrey has definitely caught the eye in 2019/20. His powerful rushing, blocking and catching have helped the Carolina Panthers have a good start to their season and sit second in the NFC South to date. His 108 rushing yards against the Green Bay Packers in Week 10 showed his power and tenacity to great effect. This has left him as a real standout performer so far and on line for well over 2,000 rushing yards from scrimmage by the time the season is over.

A long way to go yet

Although we are around halfway through the regular NFL season now, there is a lot of football still to be played and many surprises that could happen. This means that we may see any of the above continue to impress or even someone else suddenly make their mark. Whatever happens, the remaining NFL games are sure to deliver the usual mixture of thrills and spills.
