As his creation, the Emmy-winning HBO political comedy Veep, is heading to its final season, Armando Iannucci is making a return to the premium cable network while staying away from Washington (and mostly Earth altogether).
HBO has greenlighted a pilot and picked up backup scripts for Avenue 5 (working title), a new comedy from Veep creator Iannucci. Created, written and executive produced by Iannucci, Avenue 5 is set in the future, mostly in space. (Word is that the comedy is set on a spaceship.)
About a month ago it was reported that the next season of Veep will be it’s last which is probably for the best since Selina Myer hasn’t been in the White House for like, two seasons now so it’s already not really about the Vice President anymore. I’m going to miss Jonah Ryan but all good things come to an end.
First casting suggestion: Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Second casting suggestion: who gives a shit? You already have Elaine Benes. You’re done. Emmy won.
I really hope this is nothing like that new Fox series, The Orville, which appears to be a lame ass Star Trek parody. I am completely off the Seth MacFarlane bandwagon but I trust Armando Ianucci to make a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy-esque comedy. Avenue 5 is going to be fire emoji.
