Uh, Why Did They Spoil a Character Death in the Dark Phoenix Trailer?

Sooo right off the bat, Jean Gray kills Mystique. Interesting move for the trailer of the movie to begin with a massive spoiler. Here’s what the director had to say about this decision:

“It’s a movie where shocking things happen, where intense, dramatic things happen. People don’t just fall off buildings and dust themselves off and walk away. There’s a reality to this movie and a consequence to this movie. Even more than that, it was to show that Jean/Dark Phoenix is genuinely a threat to everyone, including the X-Men.”

Thank you, Simon Kinberg, for letting us know the stakes of this movie. There was no other way for us to know that Jean Gray turning into a god might result in some character deaths without actually showing us those character deaths.

I think my favorite moment from the Infinity War trailer was when Thanos stabbed Loki or no no wait, remember that part in the Infinity War trailer when Thanos threw Gamora off the cliff? No? That wasn’t in the trailer?

So you mean that somehow we, being the dumb stupid movie-going audience, were able to gather that Thanos was a massive threat with the potential to kill main characters without having to actually see it happen in the promotion of the aforementioned film? Strange.

These X-Men movies suck. I’ve made that known in the past. This movie looks just as shitty as the last Dark Phoenix movie, X-3, that came out a decade ago except this time there’s no Wolverine. That’s literally the only discernable difference. Oh, and Jessica Chastain is coaching her up, if that matters. I’m sure we’ll see in the final trailer that Jean Gray turns on Jessica Chastain’s character and kills her. Or else how will we know she’s dangerous?!

Also real quick, shout out to Jennifer Lawrence for getting that gignatic check and getting the fuck out of there as soon as possible. She put eight pointless years of her career into these garbage movies and I’m glad in for final goodbye, she’s dead after one day of shooting the film.
