There have been previous signs of Fox upping their output for 2018 with Deadpool 2 and New Mutants all but confirmed for 2018, but it looked like it could be even bigger depending on when the next installment of the main X-Men series hit. Well, Fox has now confirmed that Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters next year.
There are going to be so. many. comic book movies in 2018 and Fox’s little X-Men cinematic universe is exploding with 3 unrelated movies all in one year for whatever reason. I have no doubt in my mind that all three of these movies will be average.
I will admit that I loved Logan and Deadpool was a great movie, the first time I watched it, but I’ve also seen all of the X-Men movies that came out before Deadpool. They all sucked. X-Men: First Class had some cool Magneto stuff but I will never forgive Jennifer Lawrence for that scene where she went around the room and casually named all of the heroes. Fuck. That.
Deadpool 2 is going to do what all comedy sequels do, suck. Name a good comedy sequel. Exactly. Everyone is excited to see Cable and Domino alongside Deadpool in this new movie. Yea, that’s so cool except for the fact that we already saw that same exact dynamic in original movie with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. If you loved Deadpool then you are going to hateee the boring retread of all of the same beats.
New Mutants is a new property that I won’t pretend like I know anything. I haven’t really read much information about which is great for a brand new franchise. Zero press. Fox stays winning.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is coming off the heels of Apocalypse which is a movie that I wish I hadn’t seen. If only I just stopped at the trailer where Olivia Munn and Sophie Turner looked badass but nope, instead I watched Jennifer Lawrence take over another X-Men even though she should have been a tertiary character and Magneto’s family died like they do in every single movie.
These X-Men movies are going to suck.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you’re excited for any of these X-Men movies. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
