Let’s praise the acquisition of Edwin Encarnacion and not be cynical. The Yankees lineup is absolutely STACKED right now and they are about to add the AL leader in home runs.
Since 2012, Edwin Encarnacion has the most home runs (284) and RBIs (813) in the entire league. He has hit at least 30 bombs each of the last seven seasons.
Do you get the picture I’m painting? Encarnacion is a BEAST.
Round of applause to Brian Cashman, who knows that the two best home run hitters in the league, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, are returning from injury this week but decided to still acquire another home run hitter for no reason.
Interesting move considering that the team’s starting rotation is nonexistent. Luis Severino and Domingo German are hanging out on the injured list. JA Happ, CC Sabathia and James Paxton all have ERAs above 4.00.
Happ gives up 2 homers per 9 innings. James Paxton gives up 3.7 walks per 9 innings. CC Sabathia has yet to pitch more than 6 innings in a game which is a problem when you only have 4 starters and an ‘opener’ on the 5th day because now your relief pitchers are being tasked with getting more outs than your starters are.
BUT, not to worry. The Yankees acquired a power hitter to throw in the heart of the lineup so problem solved. Cashman continues to be a genius. Can’t wait for James Paxton to inevitably get injured again so that the Yankees can acquire Christian Yelich.
Welp, problem solved. No need to inquire about a starting pitcher. The Yankees will have Jordan Montgomery back in August. Max Scherzer who?
The good news is, adding Edwin Encarnacion almost guarantees that Clint Frazier is gone which is the best news I’ve heard in weeks. Clint is a weirdo and sure he can hit. I hope he finds success elsewhere.
Welcome, Edwin Encarnacion and SEEEE YAAAAA, Clint.
