The actor who played Darth Vader in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spencer Wilding, apparently also joins the yet-to-be-titled Han Solo spinoff. The film directed by Ron Howard will introduce Alden Ehrenreich as the younger version of the scruffy-looking nerf herder and will be set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
There’s a lot of scuttlebutt about whether or not Darth Vader will appear in this Han Solo movie. The actor that played him in Rogue One may or may not have been on the Han Solo set recently. Who’s to say?
But should Darth Vader be in the Han Solo movie?
The easy answer is yes. He is the most iconic figure from the Star Wars universe and he’s the biggest villain in the entire galaxy. If Han Solo is a prequel to A New Hope then it’s safe to say that Han and all of his smuggler buddies are aware and presumably terrified of the man/robot.
The addition of Vader will help solidify and connect all of the Star Wars movies but the problem is that it could easily be used as a crutch. All of the Vader scenes in Rogue One were must-see but they didn’t add or take away anything from the story. There was really no reason at all for him to be that movie.
Should Darth Vader be in the Han Solo movie?
No, of course not. But this movie will 1000% suck and if you throw Vader in there cutting up civilians then it suddenly becomes watchable.
