Sources say Jenkins will receive directing and writing fees in the high seven figures (think somewhere in the $7 million to $9 million range) on Wonder Woman 2 but, more significantly, will have a considerable backend. (At her peak, filmmaker Nancy Meyers earned in the $5 million range, according to sources.) The deal is a superheroic leap for Jenkins, who was paid $1 million for directing the initial Wonder Woman but was looking to get something more on the level of Zack Snyder’s pay after he helmed Man of Steel, according to sources. Just as Wonder Woman broke barriers for superhero movies, Jenkins’ deal breaks a glass ceiling for women directors.
“Fuck you, pay me” -Patty Jenkins, probably. I’m actually pretty excited that this isn’t about to be an article about how vastly underpaid Patty Jenkins is and how much more Zack Snyder makes for putting out the worst movies ever. Hollywood did something right. This is weird.
What stinks is that Wonder Woman 2 will inevitably be awful because it’s a sequel that takes place before Justice League which means it’s another movie taking place in the past and Chris Pine might be back which makes no sense.
Chances are, the studio is going to step in and try to force Patty to throw in some nonsense about Bruce Wayne’s parents or something. Diana Prince and Martha Wayne were roommates at Spelman or some shit like that.
Regardless, congrats to Patty for making Monster. But also congrats for making close to $10 milly and giving the world one of only like, 5 or 6 really good super hero movies. Are women about to recognized as humans in the movie industry? Trick question: no.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think Patty Jenkins deserves all the cash. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
