I grew up watching Norm Macdonald’s Weekend Update segment on Saturday Night Live. I used to want to be him. [1. I still do, but I used to too.]His ability to just casually say horrible things remains unmatched to this day but now he’s added new tools to his arsenal a score and ten later.
Interestingly both Norm and Louis CK had their best bits of their stand up specials this year centered around suicide. While CK mockingly just used the shock factor to minimize it’s impact, Norm walked through suicide step by step. He went to the ‘rope store’ located next door to the ‘rickety stool store’.
More than anything. Norm MacDonald’s special is a shrine to the English language. His use of antiquated terms and unnecessarily complex descriptions of mundane activities is the comedy. You’re on the edge of your seat waiting for him to pronounce every possible letter in a word. ‘S-word’.
I’m going to compare every special to Amy Schumer’s Leather Special and the differences are alarming. While neither comedian tends to reveal anything about their personal and open up to the audience, you can tell Norm is that weirdo on and off the stage while Amy is portraying herself as a drunk idiot which is a mask that does not fit her strange shaped face.
Norm MacDonald is the GOAT.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think Norm MacDonald’s Hitler’s Dog, Gossip and Treakery is the best special of 2017. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
