Josh Hawley is a Republican senator from Missouri who has joined the new wave of modern politics that exclusively consists of performative bullshit and engaging in irrelevant culture wars so they can raise their profile and visibility while simultaneously doing absolutely nothing to actually help the lives of the people they want to re-elect them.
When Hawley isn’t too busy campaigning to allow businesses to discriminate against gay customers and voting against impeaching the president who 1000% deserved to be removed from office, he has ESPN NBA reporter, Adrian Wojnarowski, dunking on him in his own inbox.

Let’s take a step back for a moment. Josh Hawley sent a letter to the NBA attempting to call them out on their hypocrisy. They are all in on Black Lives Matters and they’re allowing players to wear BLM messages on the back of their jerseys yet they muzzled Houston Rockets general manager, Daryl Morey, when he spoke out about China’s oppressive government and his support of the Hong Kong protests.
A lot of trolls have come out against the NBA for this terrible point. Here is something that is unfortunate but we all know is true: people only care about issues that affect them directly and when it comes to Americans especially, we typically don’t give a shit about what’s going on in other countries or have any real knowledge of foreign policies.
We don’t have the energy to. We work jobs that pay us pennies while the CEOs make millions and billions. We can’t afford health care because our millionaire billionaire bosses refuse to pay their share in taxes. And conservatives like Josh Hawley force us in culture wars about face masks and statues so we are constantly arguing over obvious nonsense just for the sake of never having enough energy to, ya know, confront those millionaires and billionaires that are robbing us.
So it is wildly disingenuous to call out the NBA for not standing up against China when so many corporations actively do business with China on a daily basis while ignoring China’s dictatorship. Do you want to know why the NBA gets called out and these companies that are running sweatshops there aren’t questioned?
The NBA is pro-black and they’re loud about it.
That’s it. That’s what this is. What’s happening in Hong Kong is a nightmare and we should absolutely be paying more attention to it but uh, we’re also living in a country where George Floyd was strangled in the streets by the police on camera in broad daylight and none of the police officers were charged until the citizens of Minneapolis burned the city to the ground.
The officers that broke into Breona Taylor’s home and murdered her have not been arrested. Black people are demanding real change in the police, the justice system and society as a whole. The NBA is allowing their predominantly black workforce to express their frustrations with racial injustice and Josh Hawley is really hitting them with a ‘well what about China’.
To quote Woj, “Fuck You”.
Josh Hawley is a senator who rides Donald Trump’s dick. You have the actual power and influence to change make the government pay more attention to China and make a plan to help the people of Hong Kong that you are pretending to care about. Hawley can do way more to help Hong Kong than Adam Silver.
In John Bolton’s cute little tell-all, he told a story where Trump personally asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win an election. Josh Hawley should have this energy with the president who wants the Chinese president’s wee wee in his mouth.
But we know what’s happening here. Any opportunity to ignore black people and pretend like racism isn’t real. Maybe the people who benefit from racism shouldn’t be the leading voices on when black people should be allowed to talk about racism.
What if LeBron woke up tomorrow and said “I stand with Hong Kong. Fuck China”. What would these racists do now? They lost the argument that he’s a hypocrite but they’ll make up something else like ‘well, why are we listening to dumb athletes?’. The goalposts will always move in an attempt to avoid any real change of the status quo.
You either support black people or you are the problem and you are holding black people back. There is no middle ground. There is no debate about whose lives actually matters or whatever bullshit semantics. You can’t talk about looting anymore. If you are not actively championing this cause then get out of the way. The world is passing you by and you will be remembered as being on the wrong side of history.
Fuck you, Josh Hawley.
And thank you for your service, Woj.
