Everyone in the NFL should be taking their cues from Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Last offseason, he traded for Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints with the 32nd pick of the NFL draft and after just one season in Foxsboro, they flipped him for the 23rd pick in the 2018 draft.
What a heist.
This masterful trade has completely changed my opinion on whether or not the New York Giants should trade Odell Beckham, the best wide receiver in the NFL right now.
I was standing firm on re-signing the man. Again, he’s the best wide receiver in the NFL right now. If he wants $20 million a year then he should get $20 million a year. Last year we saw what happens when Eli Manning throws to wide receivers off the street that were pushing carts at Target on Wednesday’s after practice for extra money.
WR stats after first 4 years in NFL:
Odell Beckham(who only started 2 games last year): 313 catches 4,424 yrds 38 TDs
Antonio Brown: 261 catches 3,561 yrds 15 TDs
Terrell Owens: 222 catches 3,307 yrds 30 TDs
Larry Fitzgerald: 330 catches 4,544 yrds 34 TDs

Prettyyyy impressive. He’s on pace to literally be the greatest of all time.
But Brandin Cooks being traded in his contract year shows a huge trend in the NFL that the Giants need to pay attention to. Wide receivers are no longer being valued nearly as high as they were just a few years ago. They’re all borderline replaceable to an extent.
The Giants would put themselves in a huge financial hole if they dedicated that amount of money to Odell.
A lot of the conversation around his contract involves his behavior. Let’sssss all chill with that. Sometimes his celebrations cause penalties. First, I’d rather have Odell celebrating in the endzone after a touchdown than watch the punt team come out on 4th down and give the ball away. Second, every single player in the NFL commits penalties. It’s really not that big of a deal.
ODB was filmed smoking weed in the offseason. Everyone smokes weed in the offseason. It’s legal in a new state every hour. He’s not injecting heroin into his eyeballs. It’s 2018. Let’s stop acting like ‘weed’ is still the devil’s lettuce.
The New York Giants should trade Odell Beckham because it would be financially irresponsible to pay a wide receiver the amount of money he’s asking for when they could replace him for a penny on the dollar. The league is all about quarterbacks. Once Sam Darnold puts that Giants jersey on, he’s going to turn Odell’s backup into the next Odell.
Trade Odell Beckham.
