Memphis has fired coach David Fizdale, league sources tell ESPN.

Associate head coach J.B. Bickerstaff will be promoted as the interim head coach, Wojnarowski adds. Bickerstaff coached the Houston Rockets on an interim basis to a 37-34 record in 2016, but he wasn’t retained.
The relationship between Gasol and Fizdale was already strained coming into the season. The two reportedly got into confrontations in practice and a split was inevitable, according to Jonathon Givony of Draft Express.
“I do not know the why,” Gasol said of the benching. “It’s a first for me, trust me, and I don’t like it one bit. I’m more (ticked) than I can show, and frustrated. … If I’m not on the floor, then I’m not valued. I’m sure (the coaching staff) knew that would hurt me the most.”
First of all, I love David Fizdale. He can coach his ass off and every season in Memphis has been him leading this overachieving team. On paper, there is no way that the Grizzlies should be able to compete with the Memphis Grizzlies yet they already have a victory against them this season.
The Memphis Grizzlies are 7-12 on the season and have lost 8 games in a row. Not a great look for the ol’ ball coach. With Mike Conley and Chandler Parsons injured, the Grizzlies roster is straight trash. How is Mario Chalmers playing 26 minutes per game in 2017?
Having said that, you need to play Marc Gasol. “I’m sure the coaching staff knew that would hurt me” Fizdale, you HURT Marc Gasol. Gasol is one of the nicest guys in the NBA and he is one of the most consistent soldiers on the hardwood. He is not the problem with this team and you HURT HIM.
This is bad news for Memphis but great news for the wonderful people of Oklahoma City who will now get David Fizdale as their head coach instead of Billy Donovan who has no idea what the fuck he’s doing. Silver lining.
