Mario Hezonja is seeing fewer minutes on the court this season with the Knicks, but that hasn’t stopped the 23-year-old from enjoying his time there, Steve Popper of Newsday relays. Hezonja is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
“No, no, no. I love New York. As I said, this coaching staff, I wish I had them in my rookie year. I’m not saying anything about what I had. It was just rough and unfortunate situation what happened to me. I wish they were my coaching staff in my rookie year. We’d be talking a different story right now.
“Yeah, I’m happy to be around them. Even when I wasn’t playing, I just said, how important they were for me and how much room I still have for growth, for learning the game and all that stuff, so it’s big time for me. I love this team. I love everybody over here. I was surprised as soon as I came here. I’m focusing only on here. This is not a typical BS talk. ‘I’m only thinking about this, I don’t know what it’s gonna be.’ I know. This is it. I love this. I want to be in New York.”
The Croation Sensation was drafted 5th overall by the Orlando Magic in the same draft as his current teammates Kristaps Porzingis and Emmanuel Mudiay. You know how everything Luka Doncic does trends on Twitter and he’s singlehandedly responsibly for all of their wins?
Yea, that was supposed to be Mario Hezonja. Instead, he looked completely lost on a basketball court in Orlando and they let him walk a year early because he was so disappointing.
Upon joining the Knicks, Dave Fizdale gave him the greenlight to shoot whenever he wants and with that came one of the few highlights on the 2018-19 season.
The murder of Giannis.
Hezonja is coming off a 19-point 6 rebound perfomance against the Golden State Warriors and he wants to make it abundantly clear that he’d like to stay in New York.
So what does this mean for the future of the Knicks?
Kevin Durant? The Knicks don’t need to waste all summer courting a 30-year old with reoccurring lower body injuries who
Hezonja wants to be a Knick, he’s improving every day and if given the minutes, he can probably lead this team in scoring.
Super Mario and a healthy Kristaps Porzingis? How many rings is that? 3 or 4 minimum.
Kevin Durant can kick rocks. Beat it.
