Is Okay To Laugh At 21 Savage After ICE Exposes Him As An Illegal Immigrant From The UK?

Grammy-nominated rapper 21 Savage was arrested in Atlanta early Sunday by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to ICE spokesperson Bryan Cox. The agency says he is illegally present in the United States.

ICE says that the rapper, whose real name is Shayaabin Abraham-Joseph, is a citizen of the United Kingdom, according to Cox. The agency alleges that he entered the US legally in July 2005, when he was a minor, but subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa. ICE says Abraham-Joseph became unlawfully present when his visa expired in July 2006.

“Mr. Abraham-Joseph is presently in ICE custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” ICE said in a statement. “ICE will now await the outcome of his case before a federal immigration judge to determine future actions.” (CNN)

When news broke over the weekend that 21 Savage, a rapper who is rooted in Atlanta, was actually from the UK, everyone and their mothers had jokes on jokes on jokes. Including myself. That shit was funny.

But it’s a little more complicated than just a rapper lying about his upbringing especially considering that I still believe every word 21 Savage has said. That man landed on Atlanta soil as a teenager and all of a sudden a gun just manifested in his hands. He spent one night in East Atlanta and just woke up with face tattoos.

Although I do find the thought of 21 secretly hiding a British accent to be hilarious, the second ICE is involved, the joke is 1000% over. These are the same motherfuckers running up on local businesses and throwing the hourly employees into custody because of ‘anonymous’ tips or whatever.

ICE’s sole mission is to throw innocent Spanish people in cages to make white people who are unhappy with the way their own lives turned out feel better and more powerful than a group of brown people that only want the opportunity to provide for their families and escape the poverty and tyranny from their native countries.

So fuck ICE.

That being said, like, 21 Savage would be getting deported to a first world country. Let’s not pour one out for him just yet. They probably have better wifi service over there. If shit goes badly, worst case scenario is he’s just tweeting from a different time zone.

But we’re still talking about a man who just lost his freedom and is still being detained. And I don’t think it’s just an interesting coincidence that ICE kicked his door in on Sunday afternoon just hours before the Super Bowl was taking place in Atlanta. Clearly one of the biggest days for that city and ICE chose that day to embarass him.

I may have not mentioned this earlier but fuck ICE.

So is it okay to make fun of 21 Savage?

Yes, as long as you understand the power that this current Trump administration has given to ICE and how destructive that organization is. He’ll be fine. Or he’ll get send back to the UK, where he will be fine. So yea, get those jokes off.

As long as you’re not Demi Lovato who made one joke about 21 and was promptly hit with infinite ‘you smoke crack’ replies. Homegirl had to delete her Twitter because of it.

Ugh, you overdose ONE time and suddenly you can’t mock someone getting arrested. Life ain’t fair, man.
