“Shrek” and “Puss in Boots” are getting rebooted and Chris Meledandri, the man behind “Despicable Me,” is overseeing their revival.
Universal Pictures has tasked Meledandri with finding some fresh story lines to reintroduce the lovable ogre and the sword-wielding feline to new generations of moviegoers. One thing the animation guru doesn’t want to mess with is with the vocal performances. Part of the popularity of “Shrek” is attributable to a voice cast that included Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas, and in a lengthy profile in Variety, Meledandri says he would like to get the band back together.
I am writing this on Election Day. A day that could decide the future of our country. By the end of this day we will know if we’re all as a country just totally okay with immigrant children being locked in cages or if we like, ya know, want to actually do something about that.
The stakes are high.
But when we need relief from the stresses of politics, Universal Pictures drops a bombshell on us. Shrek. Is. Back.
It’s being reported that this is a ‘reboot’ but they’re also saying that they want to bring all of the voice actors back which isn’t what a reboot is unless they plan on bringing back Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy but they want to restart the entire story which would be dumb.
But I don’t want to be negative.
Thank you, Shrek. We need you. Come save us.
A lot has changed since 2001 like Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy um, don’t work anymore. Oh, and Smashmouth only gets blasted to torture terrorists but let’s all jump into this pre 9/11 time machine together back when Mike Myers making fart jokes made us laugh for hours on end.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think Shrek is going to save us from ourselves. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
