The actress told the Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast that she was the “runner-up” to play Imperator Furiosa in the Best Picture-nominated Mad Max: Fury Road, a role that instead went to Charlize Theron.
“I had so many almosts for big, great things,” Gadot explained. “But I was never big enough of a name. It was always me and the big name [actress]. By then, I was married and I already had my first daughter, and going back and forth from Israel, and dragging everyone with me, and trying and feeling the pressure of, I’m coming here, now I’ve gotta book something! I’ve gotta get a role in something.” There are no hard feelings between Gadot and Theron, though. “Charlize, I love,” she added. “It’s funny, because we have Patty Jenkins in common.”
Gal Gadot has become the biggest actress in the world because she’s Wonder Woman and you’re not. That’s how it works. No one in Hollywood seems to have a single negative thing to say about her and now it’s revealed that she could’ve been a household name long before DC snatched her up.
Problem is, every single role is the perfect role for Charlize Theron. She is Furiousa and I’m sure Gadot would’ve been great or whatever but she isn’t Theron. In fact, now that I’m thinking about it, Charlize Theron probably would’ve been incredible as Wonder Woman. After seeing her beat the shit out of everyone in Atomic Blonde, now I wish she was Wonder Woman.
But I guess we can expect to see Gal get more roles and stuff but if it takes any work away from Charlize, I’ll scream at the top of my lungs.
