The Cleveland Cavaliers hired long time Michigan head coach, John Beilein, to come be a teacher for their young roster. It’s been nothing but a disaster.
The Cavs are 10-27 on the season and have the same record as the New York Knicks. You never want to have the same record as the New York Knicks.
In a recent film session, apparently John Beilein referred to his guys as ‘playing like a bunch of thugs’.
Here’s the explanation he gave ESPN to calling a room of black guys “thugs”:
“I didn’t realize that I had said the word ‘thugs,’ but my staff told me later I did and so I must have said it,” Beilein told ESPN on Wednesday night. “I meant to say slugs, as in slow-moving. We weren’t playing hard before, and now we were playing harder. I meant it as a compliment. That’s what I was trying to say. I’ve already talked to eight of my players tonight, and they are telling me that they understand.”
That’s not great. Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to say the word “slug” and you misspeak and accidentally say “nigger”? Ugh, so embarrassing for Beilein.
John Beilein probably meant to say slugs. The context doesn’t really make sense for him to have said anything other than slugs but that’s not the point. That’s not why he should be fired.
Someone on the Cavs ran to Woj to tell him that this little mistake occurred. This probably shouldn’t even be a story yet here we are talking about a Cleveland Cavaliers film session.
Beilein should be fired because his team has clearly turned on him.

Uh yea, I get the feeling that Beilein hasn’t quite gotten the love from this Cavs team that he expected.
When you hear an old white man that you do not respect or have any real relationship call you a ‘thug’, you don’t give that man the benefit of the doubt. Doesn’t matter if he meant to say slug. Would it shock you that an old white guy was watching film of black guys ball and Freudian slipped his way into saying thug? Is that so impossible?
The fact that at least one person on this roster ran to the media to essentially tell on Beilein speaks volumes.

Yea, my man has completely lost control of these slugs.
The idea of bringing in a career college coach to develop your young players makes sense on paper. The problem is that for whatever reason, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and JR Smith are still on this roster so you have a locker room that consists of frustrated veterans being talked down to by a man who is less successful in the NBA than they are.
Fire John Beilein yesterday.
