I want to start off by saying I love this trade for the New Orleans Pelicans. New Orleans is not a big free agent destination and there is no other way for this team to acquire a star to play alongside Anthony Davis without trading for him.
DeMarcus Cousins is without a doubt the best center in the NBA today. Cousins is bringing 27.8 points per game to New Orleans and alongside Anthony Davis, these two monster big men are going to just bully opposing teams front courts.
If anyone is worried about their play style overlapping need not concern themselves. Both players spread the floor. Neither man is a ball stopped. When they get the ball in their hands, they make decisions quickly and neither guy just pounds the rock in the paints 80’s style. They will be a more dominant Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.
The Pelicans are currently 23-34 on the year and they sit 2.5 games back on the Denver Nuggets for that coveted 8th seed. To everyone who thinks that they’re just going to suddenly waltz their way into the playoffs because they have Boogie now is insane.
Look at the team around them. Solomon Hill is not helping your team make the playoffs. Dante Cunningham and E’Twaun Moore are not the perimeter shooters on the wing that are going to make you hesitate about doubling up Cousins.
The Pelicans will look great next season and I cannot wait to see who they put around Davis and Boogie but Alexis Ajinca isn’t the answer. No offense to Omri Casspi but no.
Nikola Jokic on the Denver Nuggets is going to the playoffs this season. I don’t care if the Nuggets trade everyone that has been on the trading block for about 4 years. Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Kenneth Faried, Emmanuel Mudiay. Trade literally all of them for a pair of chancletas and Jokic will still drag bitch ass Mason Plumlee and Jameer Nelson to the playoffs to get swept by the Golden State Warriors in an embarrassing fashion.
No, the New Orleans Pelicans are not making the playoffs this season but yes, they are going to be must-watch basketball in the meantime.
