Kanye West is known for his use of samples in his production. His beats have a very distinct sound in that regard. 2007’s Graduation is the peak of this as Kanye was able to clear major samples from Elton John to Steeley Dan to Michael Jackson.

Graduation’s sound was inspired after touring with U2. Kanye wanted to create a more ‘stadium’ sound that will perform better for larger crowds so he slowed the tempo a bit and used different synth sounds.
