DC and Warner Bros. are developing their first Latino superhero movie about Jaime Reyes, aka the “Blue Beetle,” individuals with knowledge of the project exclusively tells TheWrap.
Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s “Scarface,” has been tapped to write the screenplay. Dunnet-Alocer also wrote the upcoming “Miss Bala” remake for Sony.
This should be exciting news. DC is making the first Latino superhero movie. We should all be celebrating the Hispanic community getting some representation in the most successful box office genre anddd we can’t even enjoy because DC has nearly 20 movies in development and we this script may never see the light of day.
Here is a quick list of all the movies in development over there:
- Birds of Prey
- Wonder Woman 1984
- The Flash
- Suicide Squad 2
- The Batman
- Green Lantern Corps
- Justice League Dark
- Gotham City Sirens
- Harley Quinn and The Joker
- Harley Quinn
- Black Adam
- New Gods
- Man of Steel 2
- Justice League 2
- Booster Gold
Yes, you read that correctly. There are like, 6 fucking Harley Quinn movies in development over at Warner Bros. Remember when they announced that solo Batman movie? Yup, it’s still coming or whatever. They haven’t even cast a Green Lantern yet.
I wish I can work at DC. Pay me all of the dollars to throw darts at a wall of comic books and wherever the dart lands, I write a press release announcing that there’s a movie coming. Go on vacation. Repeat.
Blue Beetle is the story of young Jaime Reyes finding the blue scarab that attaches itself to his back and pretty much has a mind of its own. It’s almost like the alien symbiote attaching itself to Peter Parker and now that I’m comparing the two, I’m realizing it’s exactly the same thing.
So if you like Spider-Man, then you’re going to love Blue Beetle…when it hits theatres in 2056.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think DC has no idea what the fuck they’re doing anymore. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
