Last year, Tom Hanks crashed the SNL party with David S. Pumpkins, straight from the mind of Mikey Day. And now, he’s back, with his very own animated special, and a few special guests to boot.
As you might guess, the special is a riff on the many, many Halloween cartoon specials out there, according to the plot summary NBC provided:
Set in a small suburban town on All Hallows’ Eve, the special centers on David Pumpkins and his skeleton sidekicks who show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way.
Sooo, a year ago this bad Halloween sketch came out starring Tom Hanks as ‘David S. Pumpkins’ in an extremely lame 3 minutes. Why exactly do people think this is funny? I get the absurdity of it. I’m team absurd. But this was just stupid.
If this wasn’t Tom Hanks, would anyone care? Like, if Mikey Day was David S. Pumpkins instead of one of the skeletons, would this be sooo funny or would it just be one of the many ill-conceived SNL sketches that we’ve come to know in recent years.
Fuuuck Saturday Night Live for leaning on celebrities that we love in order to fill air time. Alec Baldwin’s Trump impression stinks. Melissa McCarthy’s Sean Spicer impression is even worse. Tom Hanks just wore what I will admit is a funny costume but he didn’t really do or say much that added. If we’re saying the visual is funny then yes I agree. But overall, this sketch is wack.
Can’t wait for them to bring this character back this season and for everyone on the internet to act like this is god’s gift to comedy.
