For the last year and a half, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have been attempting to negotiate a long term contract and this week there is a new report indicating just how far away the two parties are from finding a number.
It would've made him the highest paid QB in history.

At first glance it’s easy to make fun of Dak Prescott and his camp for turning down a contract that I don’t think anyone on planet Earth believes he’s earned. Prescott just had the best statistical season of his career and watched the playoffs from home with the rest of us. Even at his best, the Dallas Cowboys couldn’t win the NFC East.
Making him the highest-paid quarterback EVER would be a massive mistake that would swallow up the team’s salary cap and remove any and all roster flexibility for years to come. They’d be in salary cap hell scooping up discounted players from the scrap heap that are only available because their bodies are ravished with injuries or they have open arrest warrants.
And that’s what makes these negotiations so hilarious. Dakota Prescott doesn’t give a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. That Dallas’s problem, not his. The franchise tag will put $31 Milly in his pocket which moves him into the 7th highest paid more than Matt Ryan, Tom Brady and Drew Brees.
Dak has all of the leverage here. If the Cowboys don’t sign him to an extension then he hits the open market and pulls on heist on some other team like Kirk Cousins did with Minnesota. If Dak was a free agent this offseason, Indianapolis would’ve given him part ownership stake in the organization.
Dallas has to rebuild or try to patch holes with an average QB like Andy Dalton. Good luck with that.
I just love all of the ESPN analysts and the Twitter comments laughing at Dak for turning down these contract offers. Dak Prescott plays a position that will always guarantee him money especially in a sport where ‘winning’ is an imaginary intangible that tricks people into believing that player is more valuable than they actually are. Dak has a 40-24 career win loss record that the Chicago Bears will Venmo a bajillion dollars to after this failed Nick Foles experiment.
The Cowboys aren’t going to win a Super Bowl with Dak Prescott but they’re not even going to come close without him.
As a Giants fan, this is a win-win scenario. Dak gets all the money in the world and cripples the rest of the Cowboys roster for years to come or they let Dak leave and the Giants face Andy Dalton’s bitch ass twice a year. Laugh out loud.
Thank you, Dak. Please keep turning down contract offers.
