NASCAR is all over the news as the league has seemingly become the most progressive sports organization in the world. No one on Earth could have predicted that the murder of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matters movement would affect NASCAR the most positively.
NASCAR has banned confederate flags from raceways which is a massive deal in this sport. Richard Petty is considered the king of racing and every time you see a photo of him celebrating a victory back in the day, he is canopied in that flag.
Kyle Larson was literally caught casually saying the N-word back when they were holding virtual races at the beginning of the Coronavirus quarantine. Literally three months ago a driver said the n-word like it was no big deal. And now confederate flags are banned. NASCAR is moving faster to modernize their organization more than anyone else right now.
And the face of NASCAR’s revolution is Bubba Wallace—the only black driver in the sport.
Over the weekend, Bubba’s team found a noose hanging in his car’s garage at the Talladega track in Alabama. Their confederate flags were taken away so naturally they attempted to threaten Bubba with a lynching. Dope.
After a two-day FB investigation, it was discovered that the noose had already been in the garage from the previous season and no one had snuck in to intimidate Bubba Wallace.

The FBI learned that garage number 4, where the noose was found, was assigned to Bubba Wallace last week. The investigation also revealed evidence, including authentic video confirmed by NASCAR, that the noose found in garage number 4 was in that garage as early as October 2019. Although the noose is now known to have been in garage number 4 in 2019, nobody could have known Mr. Wallace would be assigned to garage number 4 last week.
Can we take a step back and recap the year Bubba Wallace had? He entered his third career season in the NASCAR Sprint Car Series and was halted due to a pandemic. Then after the death of George Floyd, he was suddenly forced to be the sole voice of a league where a fellow racer said the N-word at a race a month earlier.
Then after NASCAR banned confederate flags—a thing they should’ve done always(??)—his team told him that they found a noose in his garage forcing him into the center of a potential hate crime. And now the FBI has determined that no one placed the noose there this year and he’s being compared to Jussie Smollett for pretending to be a victim of a crime that he was literally told about second hand.
Bubba Wallace was just trying to win some races and was hoisted into becoming an activist for racial equality overnight and he’s being treated as if he is grifting and attempting to take advantage of a moment that he never wanted to occur.
Bubba didn’t ask the Minneapolis police to murder George Floyd. He shouldn’t have to tell people that his life matters. And he certainly didn’t want to go to work and find out that someone threatened him with a noose.
And to the racists who are rushing to shout at the ‘liberal media’ or to blame Bubba Wallace for this misreporting, why are we ignoring that there was still a fucking NOOSE hanging in a NASCAR garage regardless of whether or not it was specifically meant for Bubba.
Also real quick, not to get into conspiracy brain but is now really the time that we trust the FBI with race investigations? The same organization that killed Martin Luther King Jr and then quotes him on his birthday every year? Ok.
Can we all go back to not caring about NASCAR and stop pretending like Bubba Wallace is some evil mastermind who is co-opting a movement? We all just want to go to work and not have cops kill us.
