Usually I’ll write a winners and losers article for a day like today but I have become cynical in my old age and I’ve literally only thought about losers. Do you want to read about how the Bulls won by acquiring Nikola Vucevic then please head over to ESPN. It’s a free website. Enjoy.
But this is Deadseriousness and we are exclusively looking at losers over here. (It’s also like, way quicker for me to write).
So here are the biggest losers of the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline:
1. Paul George
Nothing puts a spring in my step quite like Paul George slander. He is the biggest weirdo in the NBA and should be mocked constantly. Last season the Clippers blew a playoff lead to the Denver Nuggets after the man who declared himself to be ‘Playoff P’ hit the side of the backboard in Game 7 and looked like he never played basketball before.
Stories came out that pretty much no one respected Paul and was constantly ignored when he attempted to be a leader. Enter Rajon Rondo who will quite literally stuff Paul George in a locker the second Paul attempts to raise his voice at anyone.
PG is about to get bullied so hard which is the best case scenario for the team. Kawhi is the outstanding no. 1 option and George is the quiet sidekick terrified of Rondo.
2. Houston Rockets
By sending Victor Oladipo to the Miami Heat, the Houston Rockets essentially traded James Harden—arguably the best basketball player on planet Earth—for Avery Bradley, Kelly Olynyk, Dante Exum and 4 very late first round draft picks.
The Rockets came into the season with a James Harden/John Wall backcourt, a young Christian Wood who would provide a legit post scoring option that Harden hasn’t played with yet and a new front office/head coach situation that ended with a 20 game losing streak and Kelly Olynyk.
3. Meyers Leonard
Meyers Leonard stood for the national anthem while all of his teammates knelt. He went on a Call of Duty live stream and shouted a Jewish slur for no reason. He was traded from the Miami Heat to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was cut from the Thunder. He’s never playing in the NBA again. God bless.
4. Cleveland Cavaliers
Last February the Cavaliers had the worst record in the East and for some reason decided to give a draft pick to Detroit in order to acquire Andre Drummond when they already had Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love starting in the frontcourt.
A year later and they couldn’t even flip him for a pick back. They had to buy him out and release him for nothing. This is, uh, bad team building.
Also free Kevin Love.
5. Wendell Carter Jr.
Wendell Carter’s alledged ceiling shrinks every time he steps onto a basketball floor. Personally, I knew he would be trash because he played at Duke and we’ve seen Jabari Parker and Jahlil Okafor and now Wendell Carter just be blah in the NBA.
Andddd now he’s going to Orlando where they already have Jonathan Isaac and Mo Bamba, two young big men that they have had trouble developing into valuable NBA starters. Wendell is going to disappear from the league if he doesn’t escape Disney World.
Mark Cuban is deadset on creating a basketball team in his image aka white as hell. Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, Maxi Kleber and now they’ve acquired JJ Redick to go full-blanco. The No-Melanin Mavericks are turning into Witchita State out there hoping to upset Kansas in the Sweet 16.
