Spoiler alert: the upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast will feature Disney’s first-ever openly gay character.
Director Bill Condon told Attitude that the character LeFou, played by Josh Gad, will get an important subplot in the film that touches on sexuality and involves villain Gaston.
“LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” Condon said. “Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
Let’s face it, Disney isn’t really known for being the most progressive company ever. Their icon, Mickey Mouse, was literally created to mimic black face characters from old minstrel shows. That disgusting stereotype is the FACE of Disney.
Name 3 black characters from Disney movies. I’ll wait. There’s that one Princess and The Frog movie that I see in Buzzfeed quizzes about which Disney Prince Is Your Future Husband or whatever but I’m quickly out of names.
Walt Disney himself was a well known racist and anti-Semite. Needless to say, having a Beauty and The Beast gay character is a gigantic deal for them.
What do we know about LeFou? He’s Gaston’s main dude and his role is to basically back up Gaston when he tells all of the village people to go fuck up Beast. I predict we may be looking at a Mr. Smithers/Mr. Burns situation like in The Simpsons in which LeFou has a crush on Gaston and Gaston doesn’t realize and just wants to bang Emma Watson.
Takeaways From Disney Having It’s First Openly Gay Character
- If Walt Disney was alive he’d be PISSED and probably continue to refuse to pay all of his animators regardless of whether or not this is a live action movie.
- Get ready to see Josh Gad’s new career as the fat funny gay guy.
- Gaston gay rumors will run rampant throughout that shitty little town.
- Today is the first and last time anyone will ever talk about LeFou.
