The Los Angeles Dodgers traded a decent prospect and 4 Dodgers Stadium custodians to the Baltimore Orioles for Manny Machado who is batting .315 with 24 home runs and 64 RBIs and it’s safe to say that the Dodgers instantly have the best batting order in the National League.
Manny Machado is on the last year of his deal and is expected to compete with Bryce Harper in free agency this winter to determine who can get that $400 million contract because baseball contracts are absolutely insane.
So this is most likely a rental for the Dodgers especially considering that they already have a franchise shortstop in Corey Seager who is out for the season with an injury. But the Dodgers haven’t won a World Series title since 1988 and got panced by the Astros last season.
Given their thirst for a championship and the fact that they have Seager back next year, they can afford to take a risk with Machado and at the end of the day, they have a good a shot at re-signing him in the offseason if he’s willing to play third base.
Does Manny Machado make the Los Angeles Dodgers the World Series favorites?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are only 1/2 a game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks and they need to win the division because a 1-game Wild Card playoff is in no one’s best interest. They would of course start Clayton Kershaw and Kershaw in the playoffs throw beach balls so that’s an automatic L for the Dodgers.
Assuming they win the NL West, their biggest challenge is Chicago and Philadelphia. One of the biggest benefits of acquiring Machado is that the Phillies didn’t. The Phillies are having a surprisingly great 2018 season but I don’t think that team flies across the country and wins a series in Los Angeles.
If we’re ranking all of the hitters in a Cubs/Dodgers series, Manny Machado is instantly number one. Over the course of a 162 game season, one batter doesn’t affect wins and loses that much. In a 7-game series, a superstar can make a massive difference.
But to answer the question about the Dodgers being the World Series favorites: HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW YORK YANKEES?!?!?
Get all the Manny Machado’s you want, Los Angeles. Come to the Bronx and get your shit rocked by Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. I cannot wait to see Kershaw hang that slider over the middle of the plate for Gary Sanchez to send that shit into the Hudson River.
Yankees in 4.
