It is being reported that new Green Bay Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur and longtime starting quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, are already beefing over the playcalling. Training camp hasn’t even started yet and Rodgers has managed to find things to complain about.
Matt LaFleur is bringing in Kyle Shanahan’s offense that is centered around motion at the line of scrimmage and getting the defense off balance but at the same time, that motion offense takes pretty much all of the quarterback’s audibles away as there isn’t enough time left on the play clock to make adjustments after the tight end just jogged back and forth to both sides of the offensive line for no reason.
Here’s what Rodgers had to say about the new offense:
“It’s a conversation in progress,” Rodgers said when we spoke at his locker last Tuesday, punctuating his words with a short chuckle. “I don’t think you want to ask me to turn off 11 years (of recognizing defenses). We have a number of check with mes and line-of-scrimmage stuff. It’s just the other stuff that really not many people in this league can do.
“That’s not like a humblebrag or anything; that’s just a fact. There aren’t many people that can do at the line of scrimmage what I’ve done over the years. I mean, obviously, Tommy (Brady) can do it, no doubt. Peyton (Manning) could do it. Drew (Brees) can do it. (Patrick) Mahomes will be able to do it. Ben (Roethlisberger) has called the two-minute for years. There are a few of us who’ve just done it; it’s kind of second nature. And that’s just the icing on the cake for what I can do in this offense.” (NFL)
There’s something about Aaron Rodgers talking about how great he is that just feels gross. Especially when he’s assessing the rest of the league’s quarterbacks and he calls Tom Brady ‘Tommy’.
It’s always a nice reminder of why his family hates him so much. Imagine just having someone around who’s always talking about how great he is and that everything you’re doing is wrong.
Congrats to Olivia Munn for escaping his tyranny.
IN HIS DEFENSE, Matt LaFleur is bringing in an offense that he used with Marcus Mariota and needs to understand that Aaron Rodgers is, well, slightly better than that bum in Tennesee who is fighting against Ryan Tannehill for a job right now.
Last season, Mike McCarthy lost control of Aaron Rodgers as Rodgers called audibles nonstop and ignored all of McCarthy’s play calls.
So Green Bay overcorrected and hired a guy who leaves absolutely no room for audibles in his offense but the problem is, LaFleur has never been a head coach before and has zero clout or credibility.
Rodgers respects very few people so he certainly doesn’t respect this no-name who is only 4 years older than him and has accomplished zero things in this league.
Where will Matt LaFleur be coaching next season?
