New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft told reporters at the league meetings Monday that Brady recently said he’s open to playing for 6-to-7 more seasons.
“As recently as 2-3 days ago, he assured me he’d be willing to play 6-7 more years,” Kraft said, according to Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald. “At the level he performed, there’s no one that would be happier than I and our fan base. In some ways, you think about, I think there’s one player at the age of 40 who had one good year: (Brett) Favre for the Vikings. But he didn’t do so well before (turning 40). I think Tommy’s sustained excellence is just unbelievable, and it’s a lifestyle. He’s in training now. It’s not like he’s stopped. He works out.”
First of all, how nice must it feel for Tom Brady that his boss has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I’m pretty sure the nicest thing an employer has ever said to me is ‘wow, I’m surprised you’re actually on time today’. The Tom Brady Bob Kraft relationship is beautiful.
Having said that, there is no way Brady plays for another 6 to 7 years. Being an NFL player is straight up physical torture. One day, fairly soon, Brady is going to wake up one morning super sore and not want to get hit by 300-pound linemen every week. That’s inevitable.
Although I cannot wait for 7 years from now when Brady’s arm is completely dead but he refuses to retire long after the Patriots replaced him but the Jacksonville Jaguars still throw millions of dollars at him so they can sell Brady Jaguars jerseys even though they are losing every single game. Cannot wait.
