Greg Bird is currently batting .107 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs. In 56 at-bats, he has 21 strike outs. Nooooot great numbers for the guy that people were labeling to be the next Don Mattingly. Bird is struggling, to say the least.
He’s a lefty power hitter who should be putting up NUMBERS at Yankee Stadium which is designed for lefty’s to pull balls over that short fence in right field. Jason Giambi would’ve beaten Barry Bonds home run record if he was playing in this current stadium.
Unfortunately, Bird hasn’t even had the opportunity to abuse the stadium because he can’t make contact with any pitches. When he walks up to the plate, you can pretty much expect an automatic out. Yikes.
Should the Yankees send Greg Bird to AAA?
Uh, fucking no. If anyone thinks that Greg Bird should be playing in the minor leagues than you didn’t watch him punch home runs in spring training. He was the best hitter in Spring Training and was embarrassing opposing pitchers.
If you want to send Bird to the minors than who is the alternative? Chris Carter? Laugh out loud. Carter is batting .211 with 1 home run and 6 RBIs. I’d rather have the high ceiling of Bird out there then see Carter pop up to the third baseman and shrug back to the dugout.
Greg Bird is the best first baseman in MLB history and he deserves all of the at-bats until he figures it out.
Thanks for reading. Tweet to @TheLesterLee if you think the Yankees should demote Greg Bird to AAA. Also, go ahead and throw Deadseriousness a Like on Facebook so that I can keep the lights on around here at HQ.
