Josh Brolin has nabbed the hotly contested role of Cable opposite Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 2, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The production has been on the warpath to find the right actor for the role for months, with Michael Shannon almost nabbing the role and Stranger Things star David Harbour on the shortlist. (There were even rumors of conversations with Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt.)
In the end, Brolin emerged as a surprise contender, notching his second Marvel Comics character in the process; the actor plays the villain Thanos in the Marvel Studios movies. Sources say Brolin’s deal is for four films.
Who has a better agent than Josh Brolin? Trick question: no one. Josh Brolin is about to become the most important character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is literally the main character of the biggest movie that every single movie prior has led up to.
Of course I’m a little bummed out that Brad Pitt didn’t get the role. As much as I love seeing him play a war general for the last decade in every single movie, it would’ve been nice to see him as a war general again except with like, mutant powers and shit.
I mean, I’m sure Josh Brolin is going to kill it as Cable. I think Deadpool is written so well that anyone can just get plugged into that role and master it. Cable is pretty much going to do exactly what Colossus did in the first Deadpool movie so the blueprint is there.
Shout out to Josh Brolin for having the best agents in Hollywood. Cash rules everything me.
